(Wearing Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Foundation in “Golden Sand” )
I believe there are women out there that are always on the quest to find a better foundation than their current one, and there are women that can’t be bothered to wear foundation at all. I am somewhere in the middle. For many years I wore makeup, but never foundation. Quite honestly I thought it was unnecessary and it seemed complicated to try and match your skin tone etc. I also thought, unless I had acne to conceal or major blemishes, there really wasn’t a purpose for it ( don’t worry, I’ve gotten wiser with age *lol* )
(Wearing Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Foundation in “Golden Sand” )
My first few attempts with foundation always resulted in the wrong shades for my skin-tone. I always appeared a bit ashy/chalky looking, or a bit too red/pink. When BB creams and tinted moisturizers became the “it” things in the beauty world, I jumped on board. Surely, ” light, medium, dark ” was a lot easier to deal with. For a couple of years I would repurchase the same BB cream as it seemed to work fine and I wasn’t really compelled to look for something better. What I liked about BB creams is that they were moisturizing, light weight, and provided a bit of coverage to those areas that needed a little extra help.
After a recent opportunity to try out some new products from the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD line, I have to say, this BB cream girl has been converted. Truthfully, I am not a girl that always primes my face, sets it with powder etc. I like ease in makeup, and without those steps, my face still looks flawless with this foundation. One thing I noticed is that the colour swatches online are absolutely true to colour. I actually chose my shade online and it turned out to be the exact match, this is very rare for any sort of cosmetic purchase. In addition to the colour, I am so impressed by the lightweight finish. This line was actually created with high quality photography and film in mind. There’s nothing worse than seeing foundation sitting on skin like a mask or cake face and with technology advancing by the minute, I am sure all of our smart phone selfies will be ultra HD in no time.
(Wearing Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Foundation in “Golden Sand” )
I have light freckles that often get covered with BB cream as they are really only dark in the middle of summer when I am in the sun a lot. I do however, prefer that they are not covered up as they are of course a part of me. With this foundation I am able to cover the dark circles and redness around my nose etc. yet it doesn’t fully cover my freckles, and that is truly amazing! I have recommended this foundation to many friends since using it, and it has definitely made me put aside my BB creams lately. This foundation definitely stays true to it’s name.
This product is available at Sephora, and I am wearing the colour “Golden Sand.”

The 1970’s are not only trending this year, but this is also my very favourite style decade, so I had to create a lookbook! To see these outfits and more in action, head over to my youtube channel HERE
On a scale of 1-10, how pretentious is it of me to want the cutest carry-on travel pieces on every plane I board? Don’t answer that *lol*
Honestly, I could care less about how beaten up my checked baggage is, but I love having cute carry-on bags. I also have a tendency to push the limit when it comes to what I can carry on. I usually board with a copper coloured roller bag, a gold mini over the shoulder duffle and my handbag kinda tucked away behind the duffle ( which obviously counts as the 1 personal item already…oops.) This bag right here has now added an extra sneaky factor as you don’t really see it coming when it’s worn on the back *insert evil laughter.* Man I sound SO corrupt right now. I am a clothing hoarder in recovery ok, it takes time people, work with me!
My school days are over now, however, had I still been in school I would definitely pretend that I could fit all my books in here just so I could have one of those chic hallway moments from one of my favourite movies in life, Clueless.
This bag is seriously so cute. If you’re into the art field at all and you need to carry around a small portfolio and want to look chic with some personality and the same time, this is for you! Business at the front, practicality at the back ( backpacks = freedom ) any bag that allows me to have free hands to text, eat, or hug, is a good time.
This bag is Vegan leather and very affordable at $60. It also comes in black, you can shop the look HERE

In a world of chaos, tragedies, and despair, there comes a place of sanctuary called, the beauty aisle. If you are fortunate enough to live in close proximity to Ulta Beauty, you get to experience a supersized beauty aisle ( it’s like ordering a yummy supersized combo and then getting MORE without the calories of french fries etc. )
Because a million different shades of “the red lip” isn’t exciting enough, the beauty world loves to introduce new trends. This summer was all about “strobing” which was arguably just highlighting but given a new name ( everyone deserves a second chance at life no? ) I personally love to look like a human disco ball, and while my tone may sound a tad sarcastic, I promise you, I am very serious.
In this post I will feature another beauty trend which is, “The Velvet Lip.” I teamed up with People StyleWatch Magazine & Ulta Beauty for this post, to show you how I create and style my ” Velvet Lip. “
Speaking of People StyleWatch Magazine, in case you missed it, your girl (me) was in the May issue this year and I am still pinching myself!
Now on to the task at hand! How do I create and style my velvet lip look? Here’s how…
My first look is of course the classic red velvet look ( who else wants a cupcake after reading that? ) To begin, I lined my lips with a NYX lip liner in “plush red” so that the products would last longer on my lips and the colour would also add some intensity ( it’s all about the drama! ) Next up, I applied the Rimmel London Show Off Matte Lip Velvet in “”Orange-ology.” Because the velvet lip is all about achieving a textured look, I chose to add some Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder to take away any remaining sheen. This is a great tip for achieving a matte lip look no matter the product you choose. Simply place some tissue on your lips ( try not to use one that will leave little white fluffs on your lips, you don’t want to look like you were wrestling Homer Simpson over some powdered donuts 😉 ) Next, take some pressed powder and simply brush and press over your lips using the tissue as a slight barrier. After mattifying my lips, I finished off with another NYX lip liner in ” deep purple ” to line my lips for added dimension.
LOOK # 1 : RED VELVET LIP X MENSWEAR TREND
Keeping with the theme of a trendy lip, I decided to pair up my favourite velvet lip looks with my favourite style trends. This look is all about the menswear trend. This dress gives the look of a traditional men’s suit with the structured lapels, while bringing in feminine details like a gold side zipper and of course the thigh slit. I love the contrast of a menswear feel with a bold red lip, it is a classic look that never fails.
Dress : Altuzarra x Target Shoes : Ivanka Trump
Look # 2
For my second look I really wanted to go with the 90s brown lip that is going to be huge this fall. I love that we are seeing colours like brown and purple becoming more common amongst many brands. Brown in particular, looks amazing on so many different skintones, its just about selecting the hue to best suit you. For this look, I wanted the lips to really stand out from the outfit, ( which is already very busy ) so I went with a true matte look and skipped any ombre lining at the end. I started with the NYX Lip Liner in ” brown” all over my lips, which is actually a lovely look in itself, but to take it up a notch, I added the NYX Matte Lipstick in “Maison.” I love the formula of these lipsticks as they aren’t super drying! Just because we are going for a velvet lip, doesn’t mean it has to feel like velcro right?
Look # 2 90S BROWN VELVET X METALLIC TREND
Another trend that I absolutely love is the metallic trend. If you follow me on instagram @charmsie this should come as no surprise to you, check out one of my very favourite metallic outfits right HERE ( and then come back…i’ll wait. ) Because this look already has so much going on with the textured sequins plus the metallic shine of course, the velvet matte lip actually balances the look off really well. The subtle brown tones in the bronzed top also really plays up the lip look.
Top : Barbados Boutique Skirt : Target Shoes : Asos
Look # 3
For my last look I went with another bold favourite, a violet velvet lip. I love the purple lip trend but I am not crazy about the look in a satin or glossy finish ( on me. ) I think the velvet texture makes this bold hue a bit more wearable. Similar to the brown lip, I first lined my lips with the NYX lipliner in “deep purple.” This is important for this look as the purple shade is much more intense when it is layered on-top of a lip liner first. Next, I added this gorgeous Lorac PRO Matte Lip Colour in “violet.” This product feels amazing on the lips! I definitely plan on purchasing more colours.
LOOK # 3 VELVET VIOLET X SPORTS LUXE TREND
The last trend that I wanted to feature is the sports luxe trend. This trend takes sporty elements and works them into formal wear such as this mesh layered dress. I actually love this dress so much that I own it in white as well, but the black really makes this lip look pop! I found this dress on ASOS.com a couple years ago when the sports luxe trend became big again. This trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, mesh keeps resurfacing and I am loving it!

I hope this post inspires you to work the velvet lip into your wardrobe!

Charmaine aka “Charmsie”
So here’s the thing, I really try to stay on track with my “Thrift Whisperer” capabilities, however, I seem to run into a slight issue whenever I find amazing thrift and vintage finds, I want to keep them ALL. I purchased this vintage velvet mandarin collared traditional Chinese dress, knowing it was too small for me and I would “for sure” sell it on my website ( uploading new thrift pieces soon & possibly a closet sale this weekend. ) Quite honestly, the red velvet with the gold sequined floral embellishments haunted me and I felt determined to make it fit. After staring at it until it hurt, I decided to take some scissors and extend the side slits high enough so that my hips had a chance to live. There’s a little tip for you, if you can’t step into a dress because your hips don’t lie, try putting it on over your head instead and you might get lucky! So after cutting the slits up to my hip, I did just that. I now put this gorgeous dress on as if it’s a top and stop breathing ever so slightly to zip it up, which results in a super flat chest but who cares, look at it!! ( a flat chest isn’t a far stretch for me anyway let’s be honest )
Sometimes you just have to give in to a piece of clothing when it’s just that good, right?
I love the contrast of formal and casual so I decided to add the most casual thing ever other than perhaps some PJ bottoms, I threw on some ripped denim shorts ( which actually have a whole in the bum but nobody knows with my long “top” now do they? *evil laughter* lol )
I paired some strappy leather heels that I have had for about 6 years from ASOS.com, truly one of my favourite pairs of shoes. I also added my Mansur Gavriel bucket bag to keep some unity happening with the shoes just to make this entire look feel more “wearable.”
I hope this post encourages you to try something new, step out of your comfort zone and get creative with your wardrobe.
Whether you’re actively swimming or laying out like a mermaid, what you wear to the beach can be equally stylish regardless of your lifestyle. While there are actual brands that cater to the fashionistas who are mostly getting wet via an umbrella topped drink or tanning oil vs. saltwater, I like to think style & practicality can go hand in hand. In this post I will share some tips for finding unique & stylish swimwear, how to accessorize for the beach, and how to mix swimwear into your day & night looks to make the most of your money.
ASOS not only sells designer brands but they also have an in house brand, producing high style, reasonably priced pieces without sacrificing quality. ASOS also caters to a wider variety of sizes with their Petite and Curve lines.
Other places that provide high style and reasonable prices for swimwear include : Target (Better to shop in store vs online ) , Forever 21 ( Better online options at the beginning of the season ), Swimsuitsforall ( Online, Sizes 8-26 )
Below are some of my current fav picks from ASOS.COM as well as SWIMSUITSFORALL. I am really drawn to vibrant prints, retro styles, mesh, fringe, and strappy details right now as you will see in my fav picks below.
SWIMSUITSFORALL PICKS ( SIZE 8 – 26 )
When it comes to accessorizing your swimwear, there are so many ways to add to your look. If you’re most comfortable wearing a black swimsuit, there are still many ways to add some pop to your look. Cute sunglasses, body-chains, hats, bangles, and earrings, are great ways to bring some interest into your swim look. My best tip for jewelry, is to go for pieces that may look expensive on, but are actually dirt cheap! That way, if you go into saltwater or chlorine, you don’t have to worry too much, not to mention, you will feel a lot less worried losing a $2.50 Forever 21 bracelet in sand or the ocean vs. a $200 one.
Here are some examples of some cute, inexpensive pieces that can dress up your beach look. Take it from me ( recovering swimwear hoarder, ) you are also more likely to pack less swimwear for your vacay if you find simple ways to switch up your looks.
Gold Feather Earrings
Straw Boater Hat
Cat Eye Sunglasses
In addition to accessorizing your swimwear, another way to make the most of your money, especially when you LOVE a swimsuit but rarely have time for the beach or pool, is to simply wear it anyway! I absolutely love investing in chic full piece swimwear because of it’s versatility. You can easily wear a swimsuit the same way you would style a bodysuit or even a tank top. As pictured below, you can see how I styled a plunge neck halter swimsuit (an awesome B-Day gift! ) and I have attached a very similar look available to shop.
Now, if you’ve read this far into this post, odds are, you are a naughty naughty swimwear junkie like me!!! or you just like my company, aww the feeling is mutual!! LOL. I will now unleash some of my very favourite luxury and high end swimwear lines for you. If you are like me and appreciate looking at swimwear 365 days of the year, you’re going to want to follow this awesome Instagram account A BIKINI A DAY . Not only will you learn about various high end swimwear brands, but you’re also going to be motivated to do sit-ups when you see the gorgeous Co-Founders modeling various suits, it’s really a win win.
Here’s a peek at a few of my current favs:
I hope you enjoyed this swimwear post. Although the summer is winding down, I am sure many of you are already thinking about a warm winter getaway! Keep in mind, the end of a season always brings on the best sales. Although it is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack, if you are patient and really dig through various websites, you may just score some designer swimsuits at amazing prices! GOOD LUCK!

“Look at me…I’m the captain now” …easily one of the most memorable lines from a movie. If you have no idea which movie I am talking about..click HERE ( i’ll wait. ) This look I put together was inspired by a few things…a yacht party, a dash of Wolf of Wall Street and a touch of Hugh Hefner…in other words, this look smells like money. I wanted to create a look that had an heir of male arrogance (random, I know) but complimented with a feminine touch through the gold skinny jeans and accessories. I promise you, it’s not as deep as it sounds….I just get a bit dramatic at times *lol*
If you’re not familiar with “shopping your closet,” this basically means, going into your closet and reworking existing pieces that you may not have worn in a while. I know you may be thinking, well your closet has cooler stuff so that’s easy for you etc…you’re right ( KIDDING.) Honestly, it’s all about using creativity to remix a look. For example, look at this entire look and swap options with pieces you have in your wardrobe. A classic white button down shirt, unbuttoned in a relaxed way with the sleeves cuffed is a start. Pair that top with some great fitting jeans or pants, either in a statement colour or a neutral. If you have a cute hat, throw that on, add a statement shoe and/or bag and you’ve got yourself a look! Here’s a little tip…feeling lazy? or catching an early flight? Dress cute and you don’t have to worry with makeup/hair, save yourself some time. I skipped the makeup for this look (ok just a little lip-liner) and I did a quick comb-out on my hair for a slight retro feel, to look like I made the effort. When your is the statement, nobody will notice your tired eyes trust me!
This menswear inspired contrast cuff and collar top is an absolute fav of mine. I purchased this a while ago from ASOS.com and I am sure you will start to see them again in stores in the Fall months…grab one! as they are so versatile. You can tie it as a crop top with some cute white cut off shorts or button it all the way up and wear it under a jumpsuit, ( check out how I did that in this instagram pic HERE ) there are just so many ways you can wear this piece.
Here are some links to some more menswear inspired shirts that I am currently loving on ASOS.com :
I know gold pants probably don’t seem like a staple item but honestly, they have become one for me. I actually have a gold pair and a slightly copper pair that I love as well. When you’re not in the mood to wear a dress or skirt but you need to dress up for a function, these are ideal! I often pair them with a sequined tank top for a formal event with either the sandals in the image or a strappy heel. As you can see, they can easily be worn in a casual way as well, perfect with a white tee! Here is a link to some gold jeans below (mine are old…from Nastygal.com)
As for the gold bag, it is actually my go-to bag for travelling and the movies, it fits a lot inside, whether it’s snacks or accessories & valuables you need by your side! The long strap comes in really handy as I often wear it like a cross body bag. I found this bag at Marshalls a while back, but I found some more cute gold bags I want to share with you! Links below :
I originally wanted to do a sexy heel with this look to really play on the masculine + feminine feel, but I could not resist pairing these flats as the chain really felt very nautical to me which tied so easily back into the captain feel. I bought these shoes a couple years ago from ASOS.com as well ( seriously one of my favourite places to shop…I am more of an online shopper than a mall kind of girl.)
Here are some reeeeally cute gold & nude flat sandals currently on ASOS.com :
Last but not least, the super cute hat! I purchased mine at an army supply store a few years back, here’s an online link for one ( but feel free to google as there are many options online ) click HERE
I hope you enjoyed this look! Please leave comments if you have any requests for future style posts etc. Xo.

I think it’s important to note that showing skin and looking classy do not have to be polar opposites on the fashion scale ( I imagine this to be the kind of “scale” that we don’t want to throw in a dumpster. ) I’m not sure if it was JLO turning 46 and killing it in a sheer black dress that summoned me to step out of my typical style, or if I just wanted to remind myself that I am 32 and I am allowed to wear cutoffs and a lace up top with heels if I want to…damnit! Fashion evokes feelings and emotions, and sometimes whether you have somewhere fancy to go or not, you need to remind people ( and yourself! ) that you still got it, honey. ” Black Ball, Corner Pocket…” that means you walk into a room, and shut it down!! Game over!! ( I believe this is a pool reference…work with me here LOL.) Confidence is truly the best accessory for any outfit, and if you don’t think you have it, you aren’t wearing the right outfit. Trust me, the right outfit has the power to change you from the inside out. If you’re timid, start with some red lipstick…it’s a powerful thing.
I am featuring two major summer trends for 2015 in this look. The first trend is the boater hat. I am wearing the “Spencer Boater” from an Australian brand called Lack Of Color ( an instagram discovery. ) While it is a beautiful hat, you can definitely find more affordable ones from fast fashion retailers such as Forever 21 and H&M ( click the links to view similar styles.)
There’s something very Parisian about this minimalist look. Perhaps the other major trend, the lace up bodysuit, adds that bit of “Joie de vivre”…(joy of living.) You have to admit, there is a bit of freedom in wearing a top like this and not caring who likes it or hates it! Anything with that sort of freedom attached, hippy vibe, I am for it. Life it too short to nitpick and tear everything apart right? This is getting entirely too deep for a bodysuit, let’s move on.

What would you say if I told you these shoes are somehow related to Donald Trump. Would you still be my friend? The gorgeous shoes are by Ivanka Trump ( his daughter, that is actually quite the #girlboss. ) This is my second pair of shoes from her line and I have to say, as a woman that wears a size 10, the fit of her shoes are amazing. I first bought a pair of tall boots last winter as a cheaper alternative to the Stuart Weiztman over-the-knee boots that every fashion blogger with $$$ rocks during the fall/winter ( what?? it’s true!! lol ) I hope to do the same one day, sue me! Anyway, those boots were amazing and these are just as fabulous. Here is the amazing part…come in close, listen good…$40.00 at ROSS!
So unfortunately, I searched the internet to find a link for these shoes and I simply could not. Sure I could find a bunch of shoes that look similar, but I figured that you could easily do that if you wanted to, and you probably just want to exact pair if you reeeeally like them, right? So listen up, they are a recent purchase so I would suggest going to a local ROSS store asap! and if you are really a shopaholic…I MEAN SMART AND SAVVY !! Perhaps you might want to head over to their website and ask for some assistance in hunting them down!
Last and certainly not least. Do you see that heavenly bucket bag? Another big trend of the season. Never in a million years ( ok that’s overly dramatic) would I have imaged winning a designer bag. Not only did I win a designer bag, I won the “it bag” of the season according to many fashion magazines *pats myself on the back.* I am not bragging, I am about to remind you about a little lesson that I always preach…opportunities come to those who look for them! I saw a cool style contest on the @shopbazaar instagram page and I entered! I enter as many style related things as I can because you never know what connections you can make, even if you don’t win, you win!
Check out the “it bag” by Mansure Gavriel HERE
